Alex Otti Backs INEC’s Recognition of Nenadi Usman as Authentic LP National Chairman

Governor Alex Otti Welcomes INEC’s Validation of Usman-Led Labour Party Leadership

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for officially recognizing the Senator Nenadi Usman-led leadership as the legitimate authority of the Labour Party. In an exclusive conversation with Vanguard in Umuahia—conveyed through his media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma—Governor Otti described INEC’s decision as a “welcome development” that had been long awaited.

Abia Governor supports Supreme Court ruling on LP

Addressing the implications of the ruling, Alex Otti expressed profound appreciation not only for INEC but also for the various government agencies that supported the enforcement of the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding the party’s leadership. According to him:

INEC recognizes Nenadi Usman leadership

“We are grateful to INEC and all the agencies that ensured the Supreme Court’s ruling was upheld. It was long overdue. INEC’s counter-affidavit clearly laid out that Julius Abure’s tenure had lapsed and that he no longer held legitimate claim as National Chairman. Their action helped restore order and cohesion within the party.”

He emphasized that this ruling marks the beginning of a necessary process to heal divisions within the party:

“With this clarity, we can now work on reconciling differences, restoring unity, and moving forward constructively. Members are enthusiastic and eager to operate as a family—and that’s the focus now.”

Governor Otti praises INEC decision

Governor Alex Otti also extended an olive branch to Abure and his faction, encouraging them to set aside their differences and align with the party’s progressive agenda:

“If Abure and his supporters genuinely want to move the Labour Party forward, they should join other progressives in working toward a unified future.”

Otti reiterated that INEC’s decision aligns perfectly with the Supreme Court’s ruling, reinforcing the supremacy of Nigeria’s highest court:

“Abure didn’t need to await INEC’s action after the Supreme Court had spoken. The Supreme Court is the final authority, and once it issues a judgment, all must respect it.”

Otti calls for unity after Labour Party faction dispute

He concluded by urging Abure’s faction to cease disruptive actions and integrate fully into the Labour Party’s collective mission:

“The decision makes one thing clear—Party leadership is under new stewardship. If Abure and his followers are committed to progressive ideals, they should desist from sowing confusion and join efforts to strengthen the party.”

This reaffirmation of internal party order comes at a critical time, as the Labour Party gears up for upcoming by-elections and eyes the broader contests leading into the 2027 general elections.
