Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), says the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot afford to conduct a free and fair election, claiming the ruling party would suffer a heavy defeat.
Lawal spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television.
“Every Nigerian understands that this government cannot afford to go to an election in a free and fair manner because they will lose woefully,” he said.
The former secretary to the government of the federation alleged that there are internal divisions within the government, with some officials opposing certain actions and sharing information externally.
“We have information that the average Nigerian might not have… there are Nigerians in this government that stand for the truth, and they oppose what their government tries to do, and they tell us,” he said.
Lawal also claimed that there are moves towards establishing a one-party system in the country.
“They want a one-party system. Look, it’s very clear,” he said.
He further stated that his position is based on internal knowledge and assessments, though he did not provide specific data publicly.
“Of course we have [data], but it’s not for us to… we’ve done our own. We know the scenario out there,” he added.
