A pastor and three members of his family were killed after gunmen attacked a Plateau community late Sunday night.
Gunmen stormed Gako Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State at about 11 p.m., killing Reverend Ayuba Choji, his wife Chundung Ayuba, and their two children, Cyril and Endurance Ayuba.
Residents said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, forcing many people to flee into nearby bushes for safety. Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as gunshots echoed through the village.
Community leaders said the assailants appeared organised, with some targeting residents while others allegedly destroyed farmlands and blocked roads to delay rescue efforts.
The latest attack comes amid repeated violence in Riyom and nearby Barkin Ladi, where farmers have also reported widespread destruction of crops and property.
Residents are now urging security agencies and government authorities to take urgent action to stop the recurring attacks in Plateau communities.
