Obi visits Makinde ahead of 2027

Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, on Tuesday visited Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, in Ibadan as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Obi said the meeting focused on key national issues and the future of Nigeria’s democracy.

“My ongoing nationwide consultations with notable leaders ahead of the 2027 general election continued on Tuesday,” he wrote.

“We visited Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in Ibadan.”

He said the visit created an opportunity for discussions on governance, development and national unity.

“Our meeting provided an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on critical issues concerning our nation, the direction of our democracy, and the urgent need to build a united, more inclusive, secure, and economically viable Nigeria,” he said.

Obi added that both leaders exchanged views on development priorities and responsible leadership.

“The consultations remain essential as we continue to listen, reflect, and work collectively towards a better future for all Nigerians,” he said.

His visit comes days after Makinde hosted an opposition summit in Ibadan, where parties agreed to work towards fielding a single presidential candidate in 2027.

In recent weeks, Obi has stepped up consultations across the country.

He has met with former President Goodluck Jonathan and Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, among other political leaders.
