The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has endorsed Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The council announced the decision at Lagos House, Marina. Tajudeen Olusi, chairman of the GAC, spoke on behalf of the members.
Olusi said the council unanimously adopted Hamzat as the party’s consensus candidate.
He added that members also paid for Hamzat’s nomination form.
Meanwhile, Hamzat confirmed the endorsement in a post on X.
“Today, I received the unanimous endorsement of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) as the APC governorship candidate for Lagos in the 2027 elections,” he wrote.
He described the endorsement as both humbling and historic.
“I do not take this for granted,” he added.
Furthermore, Hamzat thanked Olusi and other council members for their support.
“I appreciate the chairman and members of the council for their trust and confidence,” he said.
He also accepted the responsibility.
“I accept this responsibility with humility,” he said.
He added that he will remain focused on governance.
“I will stay committed to delivering good and accountable leadership to our people,” he said.
