Washington is pushing allies to join a new effort to secure one of the world’s most critical oil routes.
The United States is urging foreign governments to join a new coalition aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait is a key shipping route disrupted by rising tensions with Iran.
The proposed alliance, called the “Maritime Freedom Construct,” would coordinate diplomatic pressure and intelligence sharing to ensure safe passage. U.S. diplomats have been instructed to seek partner commitments within days, signaling urgency.
Officials say the initiative will improve maritime awareness and protect global energy flows through the narrow waterway.

The move comes as existing efforts led by the United Kingdom and France are already working with dozens of nations on a similar plan. Although differences remain over strategy and possible military involvement.
At the same time, the administration is in discussions with Congress about formal authorization for military action linked to the conflict.
The push for a new coalition highlights growing global concern over energy security and the risk of further escalation in the Middle East.
