A claimed suicide note linked to Jeffrey Epstein has resurfaced in sealed court records.
A former cellmate of Jeffrey Epstein says he discovered a handwritten note shortly after Epstein’s earlier suicide attempt in jail, weeks before his death in 2019.
Nicholas Tartaglione, who shared a cell with Epstein, said the note was written on a yellow legal pad and hidden inside a book. He claims to have found it in July 2019 after Epstein was discovered injured in his cell in Manhattan.
According to Tartaglione, the note contained defiant language, including references to federal investigations and a brief farewell message. The document is now part of a sealed case file related to his criminal proceedings.
Epstein was found with a neck injury on July 23, 2019, in what officials described as a possible suicide attempt. He later died by suicide on August 10 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
The The New York Times has filed a legal request to unseal the alleged note, arguing it has public interest value. A federal judge has ordered responses to the request in early May.
Prosecutors have said they were not previously aware of any suicide note, though records appear to reference it.
The case continues to draw scrutiny years as new details raise fresh questions about the circumstances inside the jail.
