Oladimeji Fabiyi, an aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has accused Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, of being unwilling to support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni Media, Fabiyi said Obi is yet to make a clear commitment to back another aspirant within the opposition coalition.
He said Atiku has already declared his readiness to support whoever emerges through a credible process.
“Former Vice-President Atiku has made it abundantly clear that he is ready to support anyone,” he said.
Fabiyi added that former Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has also made a similar commitment.
He said the same cannot be said of Obi.
“I’m waiting to hear the commitment of Mr. Peter Obi,” he said.
Fabiyi said the lack of such assurance raises concerns about unity within the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also called on Obi to caution his supporters, accusing them of attacking Atiku instead of focusing on the ruling party.
“The earlier they realise that this is not about Mr. Peter Obi but about the country, the better,” he said.
He said the opposition must avoid internal divisions if it hopes to mount a credible challenge in 2027.
Fabiyi added that unity and discipline among party members will be critical to achieving electoral success.
