Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation, says he is the most experienced among those seeking the presidency.
Amaechi spoke on Friday while addressing members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos.
“I seem to be the most experienced politician amongst those contesting,” he said.
The former Rivers governor cited his time in public office as the basis for his claim.
“For eight years as governor, eight years as speaker, and over seven years as minister of transport… I have the experience,” he said.
He said he also chaired the campaign that brought the opposition to power and led key political bodies, including the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the conference of speakers.
“I know what to do if I’m running,” he added.
Amaechi urged party members to assess his record before offering support.
“Don’t support me without looking at my records. Go and look at what I have done,” he said.
He also criticised the handling of insecurity in the country, saying the federal government has failed to address the challenge.
“Instead of surmounting insecurity, the president is shifting the blame,” he said.
Amaechi said he has the capacity to tackle the country’s security challenges if elected.
