Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers state, is attempting to backtrack on agreements reached during peace talks brokered by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike said Fubara had agreed not to pursue a second term as part of efforts to resolve the political crisis in the state.
“The president intervened in the impeachment proceedings. I said withdraw, let’s find peace,” Wike said.
“And the governor said he was ready for peace.”
The former Rivers governor accused Fubara of trying to act smart after the agreement.
“Having done that, we are now trying to play smart on what was agreed before the president,” he said.
Wike said the agreement was reached during an arbitration meeting presided over by Tinubu.
“It’s like when you go for arbitration,” he said.
The minister also dismissed claims that people were pressuring him politically, insisting that political alignments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are part of normal strategy ahead of future elections.
“We have put ourselves together and it’s a political strategy,” he said.
Wike, however, declined to disclose details of the political plans.
“I’m not going to unveil our strategies to you,” he added.
