Oyebanji

Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti state, has promised to intensify efforts to reduce poverty and inequality following his re-election.

Oyebanji spoke on Sunday during a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The governor secured a landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election. He won all 16 local government areas and became the first incumbent governor in Ekiti’s history to win re-election.

‘The best has just begun’

Oyebanji assured residents that his administration would accelerate development projects and programmes across the state.

According to him, the renewed mandate would spur his government to work harder.

“I can only assure you that the best has just begun,” he said.

“We will rededicate ourselves even more strongly in implementing a shared prosperity agenda.”

Furthermore, the governor pledged to fast-track ongoing projects.

“We will speed up various projects and programmes that are ongoing,” he said.

“We will work harder and smarter to serve you better.”

‘We will not relent’

Meanwhile, Oyebanji said his administration would continue pursuing policies aimed at improving living standards.

“We will not relent until poverty and inequality become a thing of the past in our land,” he said.

Governor thanks party leaders, supporters

In addition, Oyebanji expressed gratitude to leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their support during the election.

He specifically thanked Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state and chairman of the APC national campaign council, as well as Opeyemi Bamidele, senate leader and chairman of the state campaign council.

The governor also acknowledged support groups, volunteers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, labour unions, artisans and market women.

Furthermore, he commended persons living with disabilities for their participation in the election.

“I must especially commend the commitment of the community of people living with disabilities for turning out en masse to vote for us,” he said.

Commends INEC, security agencies

Oyebanji also praised security agencies, INEC officials and election observers for their roles in the conduct of the poll.

He thanked members of the Progressive Governors Forum and other governors across the country for their support.

‘Victory validates Tinubu’s administration’

The governor reserved special praise for President Bola Tinubu.

He described the election outcome as an endorsement of the president’s leadership.

“I want to especially thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, for his fatherly support,” he said.

“This victory is a validation of his administration and a vote of confidence in him by Ekiti people.”

Oyebanji added that he expects a similar outcome for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“I have no doubt that a better outcome will be replicated in the January 2027 presidential election in Ekiti State,” he said.
