IRGC hints at safer shipping routes as tensions with the US remain high.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has suggested that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen fully if what it calls “aggressors’ threats” come to an end. In a statement, the IRGC Navy said safe and sustainable passage through the vital shipping route would be possible under “new procedures.”
The statement also thanked vessel owners for complying with Iranian regulations while transiting the strait. However, it did not clearly define what conditions must be met or which countries it considers “aggressors.”
The update comes shortly after Donald Trump announced a pause in “Project Freedom,” a U.S. operation designed to escort commercial ships through the strait amid rising tensions.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, handling a large share of global oil and gas shipments. Disruptions there have already affected shipping traffic and energy prices.
Iran’s latest message suggests a possible path to easing the crisis, but uncertainty remains over how quickly conditions could improve.
