Tunji Alausa

The Federal government says the 2026 National Examination Council (NECO) exams will be computer-based.

Speaking at the 25th anniversary of the council in Abuja on Thursday, Tunji Alausa, minister for education, said that making the examination CBT is part of an ongoing effort by the government to curb examination malpractice.

“Today, as we celebrated the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the National Examinations Council, I reaffirmed our commitment to building a fair, transparent, and future-ready national examination system,” he said.

“As part of our ongoing reforms under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), NECO will introduce Computer-Based Examinations this year.

“This is a major step toward curbing examination malpractice, strengthening integrity, and improving efficiency through technology-driven monitoring systems.”

The minister commended the examination board’s leadership, staff, teachers, examiners and stakeholders for upholding the credibility of the council over the past 25 years.
