Trump rejects Iran peace proposal as Gulf tensions escalate

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, calling the response “totally unacceptable” amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran’s response to American proposals aimed at ending the ongoing Iran war. Trump said Tehran’s reply was “totally unacceptable” after reports emerged that Iran demanded an immediate end to the conflict, the removal of the US naval blockade and guarantees against future attacks.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the proposal was sent through Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator in the negotiations. Reports from US media indicate the American peace plan includes a 14-point agreement covering sanctions relief, suspension of Iranian nuclear enrichment and the reopening of free maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking on Truth Social, Trump criticised Iran’s response while insisting the conflict would end quickly. At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran’s uranium enrichment sites must still be dismantled before the war can officially end.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also maintained a defiant stance, saying Iran would never surrender under pressure despite ongoing diplomatic discussions.

The Iran war, which began after US and Israeli air strikes in February, has continued to disrupt global oil markets. Iran has maintained pressure around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route responsible for a large share of the world’s oil and gas transport.

Meanwhile, Britain and France are leading discussions on a possible international maritime security mission to protect shipping in the Gulf once fighting ends. More than 40 countries are expected to join talks on regional security and trade protection.

With ceasefire talks still fragile and military tensions continuing across the Gulf, global attention remains fixed on whether diplomacy can prevent a wider regional conflict.
