The police command rescued the victims on May 10, 2026, after an intense security operation in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

Dr Emegakor, the Medical Director of Crown Multi-Specialist Hospital in Nkpor, spent three days in captivity after gunmen abducted him from his hospital on May 7.

Fierce Gun Battle Led to Rescue

Speaking during a press briefing in Awka on Wednesday, Orutugu said intelligence gathering and tactical operations helped security operatives locate the kidnappers’ hideout.

According to him, police officers engaged the armed gang in a fierce gun battle before rescuing the victims safely.

Furthermore, the police recovered weapons, ammunition, and vehicles linked to the criminal gang.

Items recovered included one locally made pistol, 100 rounds of GPMG ammunition, and 23 expended rounds.

The operatives also recovered three vehicles allegedly used by the gang for criminal activities.

One of the vehicles, a silver Lexus RX 350 SUV, belonged to one of the rescued victims.

Orutugu explained that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

He stressed that the police would continue operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed violence, child trafficking, and other crimes.

Meanwhile, the commissioner paid tribute to the police officer who lost his life during the rescue operation.

He described the deceased officer as courageous and dedicated to national service.

In addition, Orutugu appreciated the Anambra State Government for promising to support the late officer’s family and cover medical expenses for the injured officers.

“The officer paid the supreme sacrifice while serving the nation. The command honours his courage and sacrifice,” he said.
