Donald Trump has landed in Beijing for a high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping amid rising global tensions.
Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a major summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping focused on trade, technology, Taiwan, and the ongoing war in Iran.
The US president received a high-profile welcome at Beijing Capital Airport, where Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng greeted him on the red carpet alongside military honors and flag-waving crowds.
Trump’s two-day visit comes at a tense moment in US-China relations, with both countries locked in disputes over tariffs, semiconductor exports, artificial intelligence, and Taiwan. Trump is also under pressure at home over the US military campaign linked to the Iran conflict.
Several top American business leaders joined the US delegation, including Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Tim Cook, and Larry Fink.
Ahead of the talks, Trump said he would ask Xi to “open up” China further to American businesses and technology firms. He is also expected to push for increased Chinese purchases of US agricultural products and a reduction in the trade deficit between both countries.
The summit is being closely watched globally as Washington and Beijing attempt to manage growing economic and geopolitical rivalry.
