Residents Flee After Gunshots Rock Eziobodo
Fear spread across Eziobodo in Owerri West Local Government Area on Wednesday night after suspected gunmen invaded the community.
The area hosts the Federal University of Technology Owerri, popularly known as FUTO.
Several videos shared on social media showed students, traders, and motorists running for safety as gunshots echoed through the community.
The incident created tension within the university environment and nearby neighbourhoods, forcing many residents to abandon the streets.
Commercial Motorcyclist Recounts Escape
One of the victims, a commercial motorcyclist, appeared in a viral video with visible injuries.
The rider wore a blood-stained singlet while medical plaster covered part of his head.
According to him, he narrowly escaped death after a passenger insisted on continuing the journey to Eziobodo despite reports of danger in the area.
He explained that he noticed suspicious movements along the road before the attack occurred.
Authorities Yet to Confirm Details
Residents remained indoors for safety as fear continued to spread across the community.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not officially confirmed the identities of the attackers or the circumstances surrounding the invasion.
However, tension persisted around the affected area as residents called for increased security presence.
