Fire Guts Plastic Factory in Anambra, Destroys Property Worth Millions

A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of a plastic manufacturing company along Umuoji Road in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident occurred late Saturday and damaged goods and equipment worth several millions of naira.

No casualty was recorded during the fire incident.

Welding activities linked to fire outbreak

Officials said preliminary findings linked the fire to welding activities carried out inside the company earlier in the day.

The blaze affected raw materials, production machines, finished plastic products and chemical drums stored within the premises.

Parts of the building also suffered severe damage.

Firefighters stop spread to nearby buildings

Eyewitnesses said thick smoke covered the area shortly after the fire started from one section of the complex.

Residents and business owners around the area panicked as the flames spread across the facility.

“The fire burnt for several minutes before firefighters arrived at the scene,” an eyewitness said.

Firefighters later contained the blaze and stopped it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Fire service confirms incident

The Head of Media and Publicity of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

According to him, the agency received a distress call around 5:20 p.m. on Saturday and immediately deployed firefighters and equipment to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the firefighting team battled the blaze continuously until they brought it under control,” he said.

Chiketa added that firefighters saved several valuable properties and equipment from destruction through swift intervention.

Residents urged to follow safety measures

The fire service advised companies and residents to follow proper safety procedures during welding and other heat-related industrial activities.

Chiketa also praised the firefighters for their bravery and professionalism during the operation.

He said the emergency team left the scene around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday after fully containing the fire.
