Bandits Kill Abducted Oyo Teacher, Government Confirms Arrests

Community High School staff member killed in captivity video

Bandits have killed one of the abducted teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victim, Michael Oyedokun, died after the attackers beheaded him in a video circulated online on Sunday.

The footage, which surfaced on Telegram and was obtained on Monday, showed the teacher tied up and forced to speak before his execution.

The killing has deepened fear among residents and raised fresh concerns about the safety of other kidnapped victims still in captivity.

Community demands urgent rescue of remaining victims

Residents and family members have called on security agencies and the Oyo State Government to intensify rescue efforts.

They urged authorities to secure the release of other abducted teachers before more killings occur.

The community has remained in mourning since the video emerged.

Makinde confirms killing, arrests suspects

Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the killing in a statement on Monday.

He said the governor expressed condolences to the victim’s family and assured continued rescue operations.

According to him, the government is combining kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to rescue the remaining victims.

He also confirmed the arrest of about six suspects linked to the kidnapping.

Officials believe some of them served as informants and logistics support for the abductors.

Security operatives suffer casualties in rescue attempt

Olanrewaju also confirmed that security operatives died during a rescue operation.

He said soldiers, Amotekun Corps members, and local vigilantes ran into Improvised Explosive Devices planted by the kidnappers.

Several others sustained injuries, but he said they are responding to treatment.

Government pledges continued rescue efforts

Makinde appealed for patience from families of the victims and religious leaders.

He assured residents that the government would not abandon the rescue mission.

According to him, seven teachers were abducted in total during the school attack.

He confirmed that security agencies had arrested additional suspects across the state.

School attack intensifies security concerns in Oyo

Gunmen invaded the school on Friday, May 15, and abducted the principal, teachers, and some students.

The attack came weeks after a failed kidnap attempt along the Ibadan–Ijebu road that left one traveller dead.

The incident has renewed concerns over rising insecurity across parts of Oyo State and Nigeria.
