Military Activates Security Measures Before Festive Period
The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured residents of strong security ahead of the Eid El Kabir celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, OPHK said troops had already activated major security operations across the region. The command said the move aims to protect residents and maintain peace during the festive season.
The military also extended Eid greetings to Muslim faithful and wished residents a peaceful and joyful celebration.
Intelligence Warns of Possible Isolated Attacks
According to OPHK, security intelligence points to possible threats from remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The command warned that insurgents may try to exploit the festive period to launch isolated attacks. These attacks could target crowded public areas through suicide bombers or improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Officials stressed that high-population centres may remain vulnerable during the celebrations.
Troops Deployed to Vulnerable Locations
Despite the threat, OPHK said it had already taken strong preventive action.
The command stated that troops now occupy critical and vulnerable areas across all sectors of the North-East theatre. In addition, surveillance systems and intelligence units remain fully active.
Security patrols have also increased across strategic points.
Furthermore, the military said it continues to work closely with sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilance groups to block any possible threat.
Residents Urged to Stay Alert During Celebrations
OPHK advised residents to remain watchful throughout the Eid period.
The command urged people to avoid crowded gatherings where possible. It also asked residents to quickly report suspicious movement, abandoned objects, or unusual activity to security agencies.
In addition, the military encouraged citizens to hold Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes or familiar neighbourhoods.
People were also asked to remain extra cautious in busy areas such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds.
Public Asked to Support Security Operations
The military called on residents to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and security checks.
It also urged the public to avoid spreading false or unverified information that could create fear.
Meanwhile, traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders were encouraged to support security efforts through timely and credible information sharing.
According to the command, public cooperation remains vital to the success of ongoing military operations.
OPHK Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Eid Celebration
OPHK reassured residents that troops remain alert, prepared, and in full control of the security situation.
The military said it remains determined to deny terrorists any freedom of movement and ensure that Eid El Kabir celebrations take place in peace, safety, and dignity across the North-East.
