Police Intensify Security Ahead of Sallah
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered enhanced security deployments nationwide ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
He also extended Eid greetings to Muslims across the country and assured Nigerians of improved security during the festive period.
The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid.
According to the statement, the police remain committed to protecting lives and property throughout the celebrations.
“The Inspector-General joins all Nigerians in celebrating this auspicious occasion and prays for peace, unity, and prosperity for our great nation,” the statement read.
Police Deploy Tactical Teams Nationwide
The police chief directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all states and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen security operations.
The deployment covers Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public places expected to attract large crowds.
The police also assigned tactical units, intelligence operatives, and conventional officers to critical national assets and strategic locations nationwide.
Force Expands Patrol and Surveillance Operations
According to the statement, the police will intensify visibility policing and coordinated patrols during the festive period.
Security teams will also conduct surveillance operations and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties to deter criminal activities.
The force said the measures aim to improve rapid response to security threats and maintain public safety during the celebrations.
IGP Urges Public Vigilance
Disu urged Nigerians to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
He stressed that public vigilance remains essential to maintaining peace and safety during Eid-el-Kabir.
“Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” he said.
The IGP advised residents to report suspicious persons, unattended bags, unusual gatherings, and strange movements around public places.
“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” the statement added.
Police Release Emergency Contact Lines
The Nigeria Police Force released dedicated emergency numbers for members of the public during the celebrations.
The contact lines are 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786.
The police assured Nigerians of continued commitment to public safety and national security throughout the festive season.
