Meta Launches Paid Subscription Plans for Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp

Company Expands Revenue Strategy

Meta has launched paid subscription services for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

The company announced the rollout on Wednesday.

Meta said the move will help reduce its dependence on advertising revenue.

The company also plans to introduce more premium services for creators, businesses and artificial intelligence products.

Meta Reveals Subscription Prices

Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, announced the new plans in a video shared on Instagram.

According to the company, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will cost $3.99 monthly.

WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99 per month.

The premium plans will include several extra features for users.

Premium Features Added

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will offer advanced analytics tools.

Users will also access story rewatch insights and wider audience reach.

The plans will include profile customisation options as well.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp Plus will focus more on personalisation.

Subscribers will get premium stickers, custom ringtones and special app themes.

Meta Plans Unified Brand

Gleit said Meta intends to combine its subscription products under one brand called “Meta One.”

The company wants to create a unified premium experience across its platforms.

AI Spending Drives New Strategy

The subscription launch comes as Meta increases spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The company recently projected annual capital expenditure between $125bn and $145bn.

Most of the spending will support AI data centres and technology development.

Following the announcement, Meta’s shares rose nearly three per cent.

Earlier Ad-Free Plans in Europe

Meta first introduced paid ad-free versions of Facebook and Instagram in Europe in 2023.

The launch followed new European Union data privacy regulations.

Users could choose between a free ad-supported version or a paid ad-free experience.

Analysts See Long-Term Shift

Industry analysts believe the move signals a broader business shift for Meta.

The company now aims to build stronger subscription-based revenue streams.

Experts also expect more premium digital services from Meta in the future.
