Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was structured to favour Atiku Abubakar, adding that Rotimi Amaechi made a mistake by joining the party.
Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike said he foresaw the outcome of the ADC presidential primary and would have advised Amaechi against participating if consulted.
“This is my brother. If he had called me, I would have told him not to run there,” Wike said.
“It’s not clear. He can’t do transparency or due process.”
Amaechi recently lost the ADC presidential ticket to Atiku, describing the election result as concocted
Wike said the composition of the party’s leadership made the outcome predictable.
“When I saw the setup in ADC and I saw David Mark there, I laughed,” he said.
“You know when you have worked with these people, you know who is who and who will do what.”
According to the FCT minister, the party’s internal arrangements did not inspire confidence in a transparent process.
“That setup was Atiku’s setup. One hundred percent,” he said.
“You can’t sell that to me. You cannot.”
Wike said his assessment was based on his experience as a politician.
“As a politician, that kind of setup will not give you transparency,” he said.
“That kind of setup will not give you a free and fair election.”
He added that Amaechi acted hastily by joining the party.
“I told you my brother made a mistake,” Wike said.
“He was too much in a hurry. He was getting in the way, but I didn’t know what I was shouting.”
