Ogun Police clarify arrest of 38 Ivorians, dismiss banditry claims

The Ogun State Police Command says the arrest of 38 Ivorians in Atan-Ota has no link to banditry or terrorist activities.

The Ogun State Police Command has debunked reports of bandit attacks and community invasions across parts of the state. Additionally, it clarified that 38 Ivorians recently arrested in Atan-Ota were not involved in banditry.

Police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola said security assessments carried out in communities and schools mentioned in viral reports confirmed that there were no attacks, kidnappings or security breaches in Ota, Ifo, Agbado, Atan-Ota and surrounding areas. Schools reportedly remained open and operated normally without disruption.

According to the police, the 38 foreign nationals were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Kajola-Ilese, Atan-Ota. The suspects allegedly failed to provide valid immigration documents and claimed they entered Nigeria for online business activities. They have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation.

The clarification comes amid growing public concern over insecurity in parts of the South-West. This follows the recent arrest of a tailor accused of producing a fake video alleging a bandit invasion in Atan-Ota.

The Ogun Police Command has urged residents to verify security information through official channels and avoid spreading unverified reports.
