The father of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, mostly known as Mohbad, by the name Joseph Aloba, has once again sited the controversies surrounding his son’s career challenges and saddened death.
In a recent dialogue with Sunday Scoop, Mr. Aloba maintained that his son was subjected to bullying while alive, ruling out the recent claims of former Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley, who has denied any part in Mohbad’s passing.
According to reports Naira Marley had recently granted an interview in which he emphasized that he only tried to guide Mohbad, particularly after realizing that the singer had allegedly begun experimenting with illicit substances.

In a heartfelt reflection on his late son’s troubled past, Joseph Aloba—the father of Nigerian singer Mohbad—opened up about a disturbing personal experience involving Naira Marley, the controversial head of Marlian Music. Aloba recounted visiting Marley’s residence in an attempt to settle the growing tension between the label and his son, only to leave with a heavy heart and deeper concern for Mohbad’s well-being.
According to Aloba, the visit, which was meant to be a peaceful reconciliation, turned into an eye-opening moment. He claimed that Marley didn’t even speak with basic respect during the encounter, and the atmosphere was far from cordial. “People think I went there begging for money,” he said, countering the narrative. “But life isn’t just about what I want to eat—I was trying to protect my son.”
What disturbed him even more, he explained, was a quiet conversation with one of Marley’s close associates during the visit. The individual, speaking in confidence, allegedly revealed that Mohbad had been physically assaulted by the label boss himself. This revelation, Aloba said, deeply troubled him and confirmed some of the abuse claims his son had tried to share before his untimely passing.
Financial manipulation in entertainment
On the subject of financial irregularities, Aloba also acknowledged ongoing rumors that Mohbad had been conducting transactions through bank accounts that were not under his name. He confirmed that the situation did, in fact, exist. At one point, Marley reportedly confronted Mohbad about receiving large sums of money through unfamiliar accounts.
Aloba, echoing similar concerns, said he too became suspicious when funds sent to him occasionally came from unknown sources. He said he had warned his son about this, telling him directly: “If you want to send me anything, make sure it’s from your own account.” According to him, that was the limit of what he knew about the financial dealings, but it was enough to raise red flags.
Aloba’s revelations continue to fuel public interest in the late artist’s life, with growing calls for a deeper investigation into artist exploitation and abuse within the Nigerian music industry. Mohbad, whose death sparked a national outcry in 2023, had spoken out multiple times about threats to his life, strained label relationships, and financial manipulation—issues that now seem far more credible in the wake of his father’s testimony.
