The Manchester City striker scored twice to lead Norway to a convincing victory in their opening World Cup match.
Erling Haaland announced his arrival on the FIFA World Cup stage with a brilliant two-goal performance as Norway defeated Iraq 4-1 in their Group stage opener.
The 25-year-old striker opened the scoring in the first half, sliding in to finish a cross from David Moller Wolfe. After Iraq equalised through Aymen Hussein, Haaland restored Norway’s lead by capitalising on a goalkeeping error before helping inspire a dominant second-half display.
Norway added two more goals to secure a comfortable victory and make a strong start to their 2026 World Cup campaign.
The result marked Norway’s first World Cup finals goal since 1998 and highlighted Haaland’s growing reputation as one of football’s most decisive forwards. The striker now has 57 goals in 51 appearances for Norway, one of the best scoring records in international football.
With Haaland leading the attack, Norway have emerged as a team capable of causing problems for the tournament’s biggest contenders.
