President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti state, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
Tinubu conveyed the message in a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy.
Oyebanji secured a landslide victory in the poll, winning all 16 local government areas of the state. The victory also made him the first incumbent governor in Ekiti’s history to win re-election.
Tinubu hails Ekiti voters
The president commended residents of the state for conducting themselves peacefully during the election.
He also thanked them for renewing Oyebanji’s mandate.
“The President commends the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful and orderly conduct, and for reposing their trust in Governor Oyebanji,” the statement reads.
Furthermore, Tinubu praised security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.
President charges INEC
Meanwhile, Tinubu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on the success of the Ekiti poll.
He asked the electoral body to continue conducting credible elections ahead of the Osun governorship election and the 2027 general election.
“He charges the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue to invest in conducting a peaceful, free, fair and credible election as we approach the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year,” the statement added.
‘Vote of confidence in governance’
Tinubu said Oyebanji’s re-election reflects public approval of his administration’s performance.
According to him, the governor recorded significant achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development during his first term.
“The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance,” he said.
‘Be magnanimous in victory’
The president also advised Oyebanji to embrace all residents of the state, including his political opponents.
“President Tinubu urges Governor Oyebanji to remain magnanimous in victory and to carry all Ekiti people along as he consolidates on his achievements in the next four years,” the statement reads.
In addition, Tinubu commended other candidates who participated in the election and urged them to support the governor’s efforts to develop the state.
The president reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to partnering with the Ekiti state government to deliver more development projects and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda.
