Nigerian troops have rescued 47 people, mostly women and children, from ISWAP captivity in Borno State.
The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), said the victims were rescued on June 20, 2026, in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State. According to the military, sustained ground and air offensives against ISWAP positions in the Lake Chad region forced the terrorists to abandon their enclave, allowing the captives to escape.
Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Musa, said the rescued individuals are receiving medical attention at a secure location. Humanitarian support is also being provided in collaboration with relevant agencies to prepare them for reintegration into society.
The military described the operation as a major humanitarian success and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks while securing the release of civilians held by insurgents across the North-East.
Operation Hadin Kai says it will continue offensive operations to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
