Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has donated N15 million to the School of Nursing Sciences, Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, in Owerri, Imo state.
Obi announced the donation in a post on X on Saturday.
Donates N15m to institution
Obi said the donation was part of his continued support for educational and healthcare institutions across the country.
He said he met with the management, staff and students during the visit.
“In continuation of my itinerant visits to educational and healthcare institutions in the country, I visited the School of Nursing Sciences, Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku,” he said.
“I presented a donation of ₦15 million to the institution.”
Urges investment in healthcare education
Furthermore, Obi told the nursing students that healthcare professionals play a vital role in national development.
He urged Nigeria to invest more in the education and training of healthcare workers.
“The world needs you more than you need the world because healthcare is one of humanity’s most fundamental needs,” he said.
“Any nation that truly desires development must invest in the education and training of healthcare professionals.”
Commends institution’s progress
Meanwhile, Obi said he was pleased with the progress made by the school since his previous intervention.
He said he inspected the computer laboratory he had earlier supported.
“I was delighted to inspect the computer laboratory, which I had previously supported, and to witness the remarkable progress the institution has made,” he said.
Calls for sustained investment
Obi also cited institutions such as Iyi-Enu and Borromeo hospitals, which he said had grown into teaching hospitals after receiving support.
He expressed hope that Holy Rosary Hospital would achieve similar progress.
“Our vision must be to build a Nigeria where functional institutions produce competent professionals,” he said.
“That is how we will build a nation where the son of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
