Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has shared her thoughts on the family crisis surrounding the late Mr Ibu. The actress believes the problem goes beyond family disagreements. According to her, polygamy is the major reason for the ongoing conflict. She also said the situation should teach many families an important lesson.
In a lengthy social media post, Rita Edochie made it clear that she does not support polygamy. She argued that the practice has caused pain in many African homes for years. According to her, it often leads to jealousy, rivalry, inheritance battles, divided loyalty, and endless family disputes. She said no matter how people defend it, the negative effects usually appear with time.
“Polygamy has done more harm than good, not just in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole. We must call a spade a spade. Late Mr Ibu did not do well at all.”
The actress pointed to the current issues in Mr Ibu’s family as another example of the problems that can happen after the death of a family head. She believes the public disagreements should make people think twice before choosing a polygamous marriage.
Rita Edochie also explained that even one husband and one wife face daily challenges. In her view, peace becomes harder to maintain when several wives and children are involved.
Finally, Rita Edochie urged people to learn from the late actor’s family situation instead of ignoring it. She warned that today’s public family crisis could become another person’s reality tomorrow. Her comments have already sparked fresh conversations online.
While some people agreed with her views, others argued that family problems can happen in both monogamous and polygamous homes. Even so, her message has once again brought the debate about polygamy and family unity back into the spotlight.
