USA beat Bosnia-Herzegovina despite Balogun red card

The United States defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 to qualify for the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after an impressive performance in Santa Clara.

Folarin Balogun opened the scoring by reacting quickest to a deflected pass from Malik Tillman. However, Balogun’s night ended shortly after the hour mark when he was shown a red card for a challenge on Tarik Muharemović.

Despite playing with 10 men, Mauricio Pochettino’s side remained in control. Tillman wrapped up the victory late on with a superb curling free-kick that left Bosnia goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj with no chance.

Bosnia-Herzegovina struggled to threaten throughout the match and failed to take advantage of the extra player after Balogun’s dismissal.

The United States will now face Belgium on 6 July in Seattle, with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake.
