Sophia Momodu has taken legal action against reality TV star Caroline Hutchings, also known as Caroline Danjuma, over an alleged defamatory Snapchat post. The post did not mention Sophia’s name directly. However, many social media users believed it was about her, causing heated debates online. Now, Sophia wants the matter settled in court.
The lawsuit was filed through her lawyer, Prince (Dr) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho (SAN), of Ahonaruogho, Ahonaruogho & Co. According to the legal notice, Caroline’s post damaged Sophia’s reputation and exposed her to emotional distress and cyberbullying.
The notice claimed she suffered “serious reputational harm, emotional distress and sustained cyberbullying.” It also stated that she faced “ridicule, malicious comments and attacks on her character, integrity and reputation.” As a result, Sophia is demanding a public retraction, an unreserved apology, and ₦10 billion as damages.
Meanwhile, the legal team revealed that Sophia had privately contacted Caroline on July 3, 2026. She reportedly asked Caroline to publicly confirm that the Snapchat post was not about her. However, Caroline allegedly ignored the request. Because no clarification was made, online speculation continued to grow. The lawyers added that the incident caused Sophia “considerable embarrassment, emotional distress, reputational harm and injury to her standing among members of the public, her family, friends, business associates and society at large.”
Unsurprisingly, the lawsuit has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some users believe Caroline should defend her claims in court, others argue that Sophia’s name was never mentioned. One user wrote,
“Everyone saying, ‘But Caro didn’t mention Sophia’s name,’ is mad. Even the slowest person knew Caro was referring to Sophia.”
Another commented, “Did she call your name? Guilty conscience hmm.” A different user reacted, “₦10 billion? Una dey really craze for this side o.”
As of now, Caroline Hutchings has not publicly responded to the legal action.
