Uganda Suspends School Trips After Bus Crash Kills 21

Uganda has halted all school trips following a tragic bus crash that claimed the lives of 20 pupils and one school director.

The Ugandan government has suspended all school trips after a school bus crash killed at least 21 people in Kapchorwa District. The bus, carrying pupils from King David Junior School on an educational tour, reportedly suffered a mechanical fault. This happened just before the driver lost control on Chekwatit Hill.

Authorities said dozens of pupils and staff were injured in the crash. Education Minister John Chrysostom Muyingo announced the temporary ban, saying the government would review school travel safety while investigations continue.

Investigation underway

Police said the bus veered off the road, struck a large stone and overturned. The pupils were returning from a study tour to the popular Sipi Falls tourist area.

The school bus crash has renewed concerns about road safety, with speeding, poor vehicle maintenance and dangerous roads remaining major causes of fatal accidents across the country.

Authorities say the suspension of school trips will remain in place until the investigation is completed.
