Amazon replaces the Invitee model with the Amazon Family system. This plan allows Prime members to share benefits with one other adult living at the same address, along with up to four teens and four child profiles if added before April 7. Shared access covers free shipping, Prime Video, and Amazon Music .
Discount for Former Invitees
Anyone who previously enjoyed Prime benefits through an Invitee arrangement but does not live in the same household can now subscribe individually. Amazon is offering a discounted rate of $14.99 for the first year, available until December 31, 2025. After that, pricing returns to the standard $14.99 per month or $139 per year .
Why the Shift?
Amazon says the update keeps Prime aligned with its original design: a household-based subscription. The change also comes at a time when many digital platforms are cracking down on account and benefit sharing. For Amazon, the focus is on preventing misuse while ensuring smoother service for legitimate members.
What It Means for You
If you relied on the Invitee program, you will need your own subscription or join an Amazon Family plan at the same address. The company notes that this change comes as it expands delivery coverage to 1,000 smaller U.S. towns by the end of the year, which could improve access for rural customers.
