Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken over cinemas with an unbelievable opening weekend. The Marvel and Sony blockbuster earned $355 million in North America alone. That is now the second-biggest opening weekend in box office history. Only Avengers: Endgame still sits above it.
Globally, the movie made $927 million in its first weekend. Fans around the world rushed to cinemas, proving Spider-Man remains one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The film also received a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score and an A CinemaScore, showing both critics and audiences love it.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige celebrated the huge success. He said,
“This is a truly phenomenal opening, and we are grateful to audiences everywhere for coming out and experiencing our film the way it was meant to be seen.”
He added that the film shows the lasting love fans have for Marvel heroes. The story continues after Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter Parker erased his identity from everyone’s memory. Many fans were eager to see what happened next. Curiosity about Sadie Sink’s mystery role also boosted excitement.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey stayed strong with $51 million in its third weekend. The movie has now crossed $911 million worldwide. Together, both films helped deliver the biggest weekend ever for cinemas. Industry analyst Jeff Bock believes the fresh direction helped Spider-Man succeed. He said,
“Audiences are tired of seeing the same thing. There are too many connected storylines, and it’s turning entertainment into homework. We need a fresh start.”
Interestingly, Brand New Day achieved this record without IMAX screens because The Odyssey occupied them.
Sony’s Tom Rothman also praised the movie’s emotional message. He said,
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day is fundamentally a movie about friendship… and that is resonant to audiences of all ages.”
The film continues Tom Holland’s impressive Spider-Man journey after the success of Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home. Marvel will now look to build on this momentum with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
