The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, assured that the Federal Government will protect every soldier carrying out lawful duties.

He spoke on Wednesday during a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, part of preparations for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Minister Responds to Wike–Navy Officer Clash

Badaru addressed Tuesday’s clash between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a Navy Lieutenant. The dispute involved a piece of land in Abuja, reportedly linked to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

The Defence Minister emphasized that the military stands united. He said the government will fully back officers performing lawful duties.

“At the Ministry and within the Armed Forces, we always protect our officers on lawful duty,” Badaru said. “We are investigating this issue and will ensure every officer acting within the law remains safe.”
