DSS Releases Kenneth Nwafor, Awards N5 Million Compensation

DSS Compensation – Kenneth Nwafor released and compensated

The Director General of the State Security Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, released Kenneth Okechukwu Nwafor, who authorities had arrested in July 2022 for alleged links to the banned Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

Nwafor comes from Isuikwuato Local Government Area in Abia State. DSS will pay him N5 million for his wrongful detention. In addition, the agency provides him with free medical care.

DSS Reviews Cases and Ensures Justice

Credible security sources confirmed that DSS investigations cleared Nwafor of wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the DG instructed his team to review all inherited cases. The team ensures prompt justice and proper due process.

“The Director General asked investigators to examine all unresolved cases. They thoroughly assessed Nwafor’s case,” the source said. As a result, DSS completed his release swiftly.

DG Promotes Accountability and Humanitarian Measures

The source emphasized that the DG demonstrates a strong commitment to the rule of law. In addition, DSS released three other Abia men—Udemba, Onyedikachi, and Eze—suspected of IPOB affiliation.

“Mr. Ajayi acknowledges mistakes and takes corrective action. Therefore, under his leadership, DSS compensates victims of wrongful actions directly,” the source added.

This approach has already produced results. For example, DSS paid N20 million to a Jos-based businessman injured during a past security operation. Similarly, DSS awarded N10 million to an Abuja-based businesswoman who faced wrongful detention.

Overall, the current leadership continues to review cases carefully. It compensates wrongfully held individuals promptly. These actions reinforce transparency and accountability within the agency.
