A major Ikeja power outage has thrown Ikeja, Ogba and Alausa into blackout following a collapse of a key transmission line on Tuesday. The disruption has halted electricity supply to homes, offices and commercial centres across the affected Lagos districts.
The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IE) said the outage resulted from a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) line failure involving a damaged 132kV jumper that cut bulk power supply.
TCN Technicians Working to Restore Power Supply
TCN engineers are already on-site addressing the transmission collapse and working to restore electricity. Meanwhile, many businesses have switched to generators as fuel costs surge, creating further strain on operations.
Residents expressed frustration over the outage, especially as authorities have yet to provide a definite timeline for full restoration.
Businesses Count Losses During Peak Season
The Ikeja power outage is disrupting commercial activities at a time when end-of-year traffic drives higher business demand. Shop owners and service providers say early closures and reduced output are becoming unavoidable.
Authorities have promised updates as repairs progress and urged residents to remain calm.
