The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has entered a period of mourning following the death of actress, producer, and filmmaker Allwell Ademola. The Yoruba film star died on Saturday at the age of 43. Doctors confirmed her death at Ancilla Hospital in Agege, Lagos.
Family sources said Ademola suffered a sudden heart attack at her residence earlier in the day. Relatives rushed her to the hospital, but medical personnel could not revive her. News of her death spread quickly across social media, leaving colleagues and fans in shock.
Colleagues Confirm the Loss
Filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi first hinted at the tragedy through an Instagram post that he later deleted. Shortly after, several Nollywood actors and producers shared candlelight images and condolence messages online. These posts confirmed the heartbreaking news across the industry.
Veteran actress Faithia Williams later confirmed Ademola’s death on Instagram. She described the loss as deeply painful and emotional. Her post attracted an outpouring of sympathy from fans and fellow actors.
Emotional Tributes Flood Social Media
Actor Damola Olatunji also confirmed the death, sharing a candlelight photo with the caption, “Life is a mirage.” Actress Bidemi Kosoko expressed disbelief and pleaded publicly for the news to be untrue. She described Ademola as a close friend and elder sister.
Actress Mide Martins called the day a dark one for Nollywood. Writing on Facebook, she described the loss as unfair and painful. Many other colleagues echoed similar sentiments as tributes continued to pour in.
A Versatile Career in Film and Music
Allwell Ademola built a career as a versatile entertainer, working as an actress, filmmaker, director, singer, and scriptwriter. She played prominent roles in several Yoruba films and earned respect for her dedication to her craft. Her notable works include You or I (2013), Omo Emi (2017), and Aye Keji.
Beyond acting, Ademola pursued music with equal passion. She formed her band, Allwell and Company, in 2002 and released an album in 2006. She officially launched the band in 2010, expanding her creative influence.
Background and Early Beginnings
Born on August 9, 1983, in Lagos, Ademola hailed from a royal family in Abeokuta, Ogun State. She was the granddaughter of Justice Adetokunbo Ademola, Nigeria’s first Chief Justice. Her heritage placed her among notable Nigerian cultural lineages.
Ademola began her entertainment journey at a young age. She appeared as a child actor on NTA’s Animal Games in 1986. She formally joined Nollywood in 1992 and built a career that spanned decades.
