Nigeria’s Super Eagles have booked their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tunisia in Morocco on Saturday. As a result, the win confirmed Nigeria’s qualification from Group C with a game to spare. More importantly, it underlined the team’s strong start to the tournament.
Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in the 44th minute after meeting a precise cross from Ademola Lookman. Just before halftime, the goal gave Nigeria a deserved lead. At that point, Tunisia struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement.
Nigeria Extend Lead After the Break
After the restart, captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 50th minute. Once again, Lookman turned provider with a dangerous delivery that Ndidi finished calmly. Consequently, Nigeria seized full control of the contest.
Nigeria continued to press forward and, as the pressure mounted, added a third goal in the 70th minute. This time, Lookman found the net after receiving a well-timed pass from Osimhen. With that goal, the Super Eagles looked firmly in command.
Tunisia’s Late Fightback Falls Short
However, Tunisia responded quickly and reduced the deficit in the 74th minute through Talbi. Thereafter, the North Africans pushed forward in search of another goal. Despite the pressure, Nigeria stayed organised.
Later on, Tunisia earned a penalty in the 87th minute after Bright Osayi-Samuel conceded a handball. Although Abdi converted from the spot, the comeback came too late. Ultimately, Nigeria defended well to see out the win.
Super Eagles Set for Uganda Clash
Following the victory, Nigeria now turn their attention to the knockout stage. Next, the Super Eagles will face Uganda in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Going forward, confidence remains high as the team targets further progress in the tournament.
