Accord Party’s Ogun State governorship candidate, Alhaji Agbongboakala Olaniyi Okewole, says the party plans to build on its recent victory in Osun State ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
Okewole made the statement in Abeokuta during the unveiling of the party’s 2027 governorship campaign council and the launch of its “Ogun Lighting Project”. The initiative is expected to provide 300 solar-powered streetlights across rural communities in Ogun State, with 100 installations planned for each of the state’s three senatorial districts. The party said the project is intended to improve infrastructure and security in rural areas.
Okewole said Accord would challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election, pointing to the party’s performance in the August 2026 Osun governorship election.
“Come February, Ogun people are prepared. We will replicate what happened in Osun, and we will do it well,” he said. In Osun, Accord candidate Ademola Adeleke won the August 15, 2026 governorship election after securing 511,067 votes. APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes, according to the final result announced by INEC.
Speaking about the Ogun contest, Okewole said he believed voters were dissatisfied with the APC-led government. He argued that Accord would present alternative policies rather than rely on financial inducements.
“We are campaigning to the conscience and hearts of Ogun people because we do not intend to commodify any Ogun indigene,” he said.
The candidate also urged party supporters to take Accord’s message to communities across the state, saying voters could bring about political change through their participation in the electoral process. Accord had earlier selected Okewole as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun election after its primary election in Abeokuta.
The party’s campaign council is expected to lead its preparations for the governorship contest, while the Ogun Lighting Project forms part of its early campaign activities.
