President Bola Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, will serve as Secretary of the council, according to a statement issued by the Presidency on Saturday morning. The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu, Shettima to lead campaign council
Under the new structure, Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Vice-Chairman I. The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice-Chairman II. The party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, will serve as Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.
Meanwhile, Tinubu will work with a group of advisers that includes former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa. The council also includes senior government and party officials who will oversee various aspects of the 2027 campaign.
Akpabio, Abbas, Buni get key roles
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni will serve as Deputy Directors-General for the campaign in the South and North zones.
They will work alongside Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Jibril Barau. In addition, Senator Adams Oshiomhole will serve as Deputy Director-General for mobilisation. The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administration as Deputy Director-General.
James Faleke, who played a key role in the APC’s 2022/2023 campaign, will return as Deputy Director-General for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
APC names zonal campaign directors
The party has also appointed directors for the six geopolitical zones as part of the campaign structure. Senator Olushola Adeyeye will oversee the South-West, while Dr Ngozi Olejeme will coordinate activities in the South-South. Senator Uche Ekwunife will head the South-East, while Muntaqha Rabe will oversee the North-West. Ahmed Muhammed Ketso will head the North-Central, with Senator Sani Danladi coordinating the campaign in the North-East. Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori will serve as secretaries of the election planning directorate.
For the legal directorate, Muiz Banire, SAN, will serve as Director, while Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala will work as his deputies.
Mohammed Idris leads media team
For media and strategic communication, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, will serve as Coordinating Director. He will work with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu to coordinate the campaign’s media strategy.
Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka will serve as coordinating deputy directors. Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Temitope Ajayi, Aderonke Arabirin and Frederick Nwabufo will serve as coordinating secretaries. Segun Dada, who held the position during the 2022 campaign, will return as Director of New Media. Solomon Arowolo will serve as Secretary.
The campaign council also named five spokespersons, led by Alake. The others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
Tinubu tasks council with securing APC victory
In the statement, Tinubu charged members of the campaign council to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections. He also urged the leaders of the various directorates to reach out to party members who were not formally listed and bring them into the campaign effort.
According to the President, his administration has delivered on its campaign promises and placed the country on a path towards economic progress. He therefore urged the campaign team to highlight the government’s achievements and use them to inspire confidence among Nigerians as the election approaches.
The statement quoted Tinubu as saying:
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress. We are definitely out of the dark tunnel and are now at the cusp of reaping the benefits of a prosperous economy that will benefit all Nigerians.
“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet, let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation. Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”
