2027: APC Restricts Ministers to Campaign Rallies in Home States

APC Orders Fresh Primary Elections In Four States

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has introduced new rules for its 2027 presidential campaign.

The party wants ministers and political appointees to attend rallies only in their home states.

The directive also covers members of the Presidential Campaign Council. The party wants them to focus on grassroots mobilisation.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, the council’s Director-General, signed the circular on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

He addressed the document to directors and heads of directorates. It outlined guidelines for participation in the party’s nationwide campaign.

The APC says the arrangement will improve coordination. It also aims to strengthen grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu.

APC Directs Ministers to Focus on Home States

Under the new rules, ministers must attend campaign rallies in their respective home states.

Political appointees must also follow the directive. The council expects them to mobilise voters across polling units, wards and local government areas.

The party believes this approach will strengthen its grassroots campaign.

Members of the Presidential Campaign Council must follow the same arrangement. They must also implement their directorates’ approved work plans.

Meanwhile, the council wants directorates without specific rally duties to focus on their assigned responsibilities and budgets.

APC Issues Guidelines for National Working Committee

The circular also outlines separate rules for members of the APC National Working Committee.

Members must focus on party activities within their states and geopolitical zones.

However, the directive exempts five national officers. They include the National Chairman, National Secretary, National Women’s Leader, National Youth Leader and National Organising Secretary.

Other committee members must attend rallies in their home states.

The council also plans to give legislative candidates greater visibility during campaign events.

These candidates include those contesting seats in state assemblies, the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Tinubu Earlier Limited His Campaign Appearances

The latest directive follows President Bola Tinubu’s decision to limit his campaign appearances.

Three weeks earlier, Tinubu announced that he would not attend every APC rally ahead of the 2027 elections.

He spoke during the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on October 14.

The President explained that governance and national financial obligations required his attention.

“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” he said.

Tinubu also asked campaign officials to excuse him from attending every event.

“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you, we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” he stated.

However, he assured party members that he would still address Nigerians directly.

He expects campaign officials to coordinate activities across states and local government areas.

Lagos to Host APC Campaign Grand Finale

The APC has drawn up a proposed campaign timetable for all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Tinubu plans to personally lead rallies in 12 states.

These include Rivers, Plateau, Oyo, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano and Adamawa.

The party has scheduled its grand finale for January 9, 2027, in Lagos State.

The new guidelines will shape how party officials participate in the nationwide campaign.

The APC hopes the arrangement will strengthen its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
