Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to govern a state for eight years without owning a personal house.
Aregbesola, who now serves as the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the assertion while addressing his supporters. The video started trending online on Thursday.
Aregbesola says he lived in friend’s house throughout tenure
According to the former governor, he lived in a friend’s house throughout his tenure as governor. He challenged anyone who doubts his claim to come forward with evidence.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” he said.
“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land,” Aregbesola added. “Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”
Aregbesola’s political career and legacy
Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018. After his tenure, Late former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as Minister of Interior.
