Chadwick Boseman’s Brothers Seek Removal of Widow as Estate Administrator

Chadwick Boseman’s brothers want his widow removed as administrator of his estate. They claim she failed to distribute assets as ordered by the court.

Hollywood star Chadwick Boseman is making headlines again, years after his death. This time, the issue is about his estate. His brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, have asked a Los Angeles court to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, as the administrator. They filed the request on behalf of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman. According to court documents, they believe Ledward has failed to carry out a probate order made in 2022.

The family says Boseman died without leaving a will in 2020. As a result, Ledward received 50% of his estate. Meanwhile, his parents inherited 25% each. A court reportedly ordered Ledward in October 2022 to distribute the remaining assets.

However, the petition claims that “nearly four years later, Respondent has still not distributed the estate.” It also alleges she “continues to exert unilateral control” over the estate. The brothers say this has denied the family closure and prevented them from taking part in important decisions.

In addition, the petition claims the delay has caused “ongoing harm” to Boseman’s parents. It states,

“By failing to distribute Decedent’s estate, Respondent deprives Leroy and Carolyn of financial assets at a vulnerable age.”

The family also wants the court to hold Ledward in contempt if she ignored the earlier order. They are asking her to release all estate assets. These reportedly include royalties, residuals, image rights, intellectual property, real estate, a previously undisclosed bank account, and other personal belongings.

The brothers are also requesting that a private professional fiduciary and forensic accountant take over the estate. They believe an independent expert should investigate possible mismanagement and any missing assets. They also want a full financial report covering royalties, SAG-AFTRA residuals, and every estate record.

Chadwick Boseman died on August 28, 2020, at 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. He remains one of Hollywood’s most loved actors, thanks to unforgettable roles in Black Panther, 42, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
