Chief Willie Obiano, immediate past governor of Anambra State, is alive and in excellent health, according to a statement from Dr. Paul Nwosu, former Commissioner for Information in the state.
Dr. Nwosu issued the clarification on Friday in Awka, dismissing circulating claims that Obiano had died in a London hospital.
Obiano Reassures Family and Supporters
Dr. Nwosu confirmed that Obiano personally spoke to him, assuring that he was “hale and hearty.”
“The former governor has reassured members of his family at home and in the diaspora, as well as his numerous friends, well-wishers, political associates and teeming supporters, that he is hale and hearty,” Nwosu said.
He added that Obiano’s health remains in excellent condition by the grace of God.
False Reports Blamed on Social Media Misinformation
Nwosu attributed the spread of the death rumours to social media handlers seeking to generate content and attract traffic.
“In a desperate attempt to generate social-media content, some individuals resorted to spreading falsehoods and engaging in the unthinkable. Such acts of mischief are unacceptable and will not go unpunished,” he said.
He urged the general public to disregard the misleading information circulating online.
