Christian Eriksen conscious after collapsing during friendly

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is conscious and recovering after collapsing during an international friendly against Ukraine.

Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s friendly match against Ukraine in Odense on Sunday, forcing the game to be abandoned.

The 34-year-old midfielder went down in the 65th minute and received immediate medical attention on the pitch. Denmark’s national team doctor, Morten Boesen, confirmed that Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but recovered quickly and was able to walk off the field. All before being taken to the hospital for further tests.

Boesen said Eriksen’s Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), which was fitted after he suffered a cardiac arrest during UEFA Euro 2020 in 2021, responded as expected. Doctors are now working to determine the cause of the latest incident.

Players from both Denmark and Ukraine formed a protective circle around Eriksen while medics treated him. After the match was called off, both teams gathered as Denmark coach told players Eriksen was stable.

Further medical examinations are ongoing, but Denmark officials say Eriksen is doing well and remains in contact with teammates.
