Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has signed an improved contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2034, rewarding his performances and growing influence within the team.
The 24-year-old England international was previously contracted to the club until 2033. The new agreement places him among the Premier League players with contracts running until 2034. Palmer has established himself as one of Chelsea’s leading attacking players since joining from Manchester City in 2023 for £42.5m. He is also increasingly regarded as an influential figure in the dressing room.
Speaking after signing the deal, Palmer said he was pleased with the club’s direction and confident about its ambitions.
“Chelsea means a lot to me and I think the club is going in the right direction, so I’m delighted to sign and I’m obviously very happy,” he said.
He added that discussions with the club’s owners, sporting directors and manager had given him confidence to commit his future to Chelsea. Palmer said he wanted to help the club win major trophies and play a significant role in its success.
The renewal follows a series of contract extensions at Chelsea as the club seeks to retain established players while securing the futures of emerging talents. Brazilian forward Joao Pedro also signed a contract running until 2034 in August, while Pedro Neto agreed to a new six-year deal last month.
Palmer has developed a strong understanding with Joao Pedro and has also renewed his on-field partnership with Morgan Rogers during the early stages of Xabi Alonso’s managerial tenure. He was reportedly among the few people aware of Chelsea’s negotiations to sign Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record £117m fee during the summer transfer window.
Palmer Returns to Fitness After Injury Problems
Palmer has scored four goals and provided two assists in seven appearances this season. Also showing signs of returning to his best form after struggling with a persistent groin problem last term.
The midfielder previously admitted that he had continued playing through the injury when he probably should not have done so. His fitness problems affected his availability and contributed to his omission from England’s World Cup squad over the summer. He had also sought specialist advice about whether surgery was necessary.
Although Palmer has played more minutes than any other Chelsea player this season, he missed England’s most recent international break. England manager Thomas Tuchel subsequently expressed concern about the midfielder’s repeated absences, saying he “misses too many opportunities”.
Chelsea manager Alonso, however, confirmed that Palmer was expected to be available for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth. He also insisted that the midfielder remained committed to representing England but needed to be fully fit to perform consistently.
Chelsea enter the Bournemouth fixture sitting 10th in the Premier League after five matches, having conceded 12 goals. Palmer’s continued availability and attacking contribution could prove important as Alonso seeks to improve the team’s early-season results.
