Aliko Dangote has announced plans to prioritise small investors in the Dangote Refinery initial public offering (IPO). Investors applying with ₦50,000 or less will receive priority as the company seeks to attract more Nigerians.
Dangote made the announcement during the final leg of the nationwide IPO roadshow in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The event attracted investors, financial experts and business leaders.
According to a statement from Dangote Group, Dangote said,
“We will prioritise people with ₦50,000 and below.”
He explained that the IPO would give Nigerians an opportunity to own shares in one of the country’s biggest industrial projects. Although international and African investors have committed funds to the refinery, the public offering will allow more Nigerians to share in its ownership.
“African investors have invested in this refinery. Now it is time for Nigerians to invest in themselves and participate in a project that is creating value, jobs and opportunities for generations to come,” he said.
Dangote also encouraged prospective investors to think long-term. He said buying shares could support wealth creation and help investors diversify their portfolios. In addition, he noted that wider stock market participation could improve financial literacy and encourage Nigerians to save and invest.
Economist Bismarck Rewane highlighted the South-South region’s economic potential. He also stressed the need to turn its resources into sustainable growth, better infrastructure and improved living standards.
Meanwhile, financial expert Muda Yusuf said the refinery could boost economic diversification, energy security and job creation. He noted that its impact could extend to petrochemicals, packaging, manufacturing and logistics. Yusuf also called for consistent policies and regulatory stability to strengthen investor confidence.
Business leader Paul Usoro welcomed the strong representation of South-South investors at the event. He encouraged more people from the region to take advantage of the IPO and participate in wealth creation.
