Davido has raised concerns over an alleged attempt by soldiers to stop him from entering Osun State. The singer spoke as the state holds its governorship election on Saturday. In a post on his verified X account, Davido said,
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow.”
He added,
“Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
However, the police had already announced movement restrictions across Osun State. The restriction started at midnight on Friday and will end at 6pm on Saturday. Authorities introduced the measure as part of plans to secure the election. Thousands of police officers and other security personnel have also been deployed across the state.
Davido’s claim has sparked strong reactions online. The singer is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office. Davido has also supported his uncle’s campaign under the Accord Party.
Adeleke faces several contenders, including APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji. Meanwhile, some Nigerians believe security checks could explain the reported attempt to stop Davido.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad also reacted to the singer’s post. He called the claim “dramatic” and pointed to the announced movement restrictions.
“The right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures,” Ahmad wrote.
The controversy has now added another talking point to an already closely watched Osun election.
